Flowering minerals

Museum Mineralogia Munich. Crystals in nature and technology
Whoever speaks of "flower power" surely first thinks of the hippie movement of the 1960s, of flower children, peace rallies, closeness to nature and the creation of a peaceful world order. But "Flower Power" also shows the splendour of flowers and plants in nature. The museum would like to address this theme in a very special way: Minerals have something to do with flowers and plants in a broader sense. For there are minerals that are named after flowers, such as gypsum or sand roses. In addition, the symmetry of crystals and flowers is contrasted or "indicator plants", such as white clover, which can only thrive in alkaline soils, are discussed. In viticulture, too, more and more importance is attached to the "terroir", the natural site factors of a soil, its minerality and its influence on the cultivated plants. The new special exhibition "Flowering Minerals" is dedicated to this and many other topics.
