For over half a century, NABU and the LBV have been putting a different bird species in the spotlight every year to raise awareness of the need to protect their habitats. Today, it is no longer just experts who decide: the whole of Germany votes for the ‘Bird of the Year’. Karl Meyer from Rieneck has been involved in the campaign from the very beginning and has captured every Bird of the Year in a watercolour painting. His son, Christoph Meyer, has supplemented the pictures with fascinating ornithological texts.
This passion shared by father and son has now given rise to an experience for the whole family at the Malerwinkelhaus. With games, interactive stations and bird-tastic stories, both adults and children can immerse themselves in the fascinating (and often endangered) local birdlife and set off on a journey of discovery: Which bird is chirping there? Do birds fart, and do they like it spicy? Which oddball birds had a bird? In which songs, fairy tales and sayings have these feathered sky-dwellers left their mark? And: Who has the sharpest eagle eyes and can find all the pairs in the bird memory game?
Plus: accompanying events such as reading sessions, bird-song walks, children’s tours, etc. (Information and dates at www.malerwinkelhaus.de).
