From 2022 to 2025, a team of restorers undertook the complex conservation and restoration of the choir stalls created in the 18th century by cabinetmaker Johann Georg Neßtfell (1694-1762), one of the most artistically significant choir stalls in the German-speaking world, in the monastery church of the former Benedictine abbey of Banz.
The interdisciplinary and interactive special exhibition introduces visitors to the history of the choir stalls and allows them to experience the conservation and restoration measures carried out on the choir stalls and their scientific results visually and haptically on the basis of various communication formats and media stations.
A special exhibition by the Museum Kloster Banz (MKB) in cooperation with the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments (BLfD) and the Catholic pastoral care area of Gottesgarten. The special exhibition is sponsored by the Messerschmitt Foundation and the Lions Club Lichtenfels.
The special exhibition will be extended until 1 October 2026.
