With the exhibition Resonance, the Museum im Pflegschloss (Museum in the Castle) is showing its first special exhibition of the year. The show brings together works by Tibor Pogonyi and Jiyun Cheon, who are closely connected both artistically and personally. The two artists met while studying under Professor Anke Doberauer at the Munich Art Academy. Today they live together with their daughter in Munich.

Tibor Pogonyi, born in Hungary in 1974, began his studies in Eger, where he studied art and German language and literature. He then moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he graduated in 2007. His honours include a scholarship from the Cusanuswerk (2004) and third place in the prestigious Celeste Prize (2013). His works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and reflect a profound engagement with the pressing issues of our time. His paintings are characterised by an exciting duality: they seem familiar and alien at the same time. His paintings are reminiscent of the old masters, yet the themes are highly topical.

Jiyun Cheon, born in South Korea, began her studies at Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul before transferring to the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy in 2004, where she graduated with honours in 2008. She then continued her education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Her artistic development led her from naturalistic images of people to a surreal, symbol-laden visual language. With impressive precision, Cheon combines the finest painting with socially relevant themes. Her works irritate, provoke and leave a lasting impression.

The title "Resonance" - a term from the field of acoustics - originally describes the resonance of a body through external vibrations. In art, resonance stands for the relationship between a work and its viewer. This connection often begins unconsciously - through the physical perception of the image - and unfolds in emotional reactions such as approval or rejection. The exhibition Resonance shows how works of art enter into dialogue with each other and with us as viewers. The works by Pogonyi and Cheon reveal relationships to each other and to the space, stimulate reflection and sharpen the eye for similarities and differences.
