Around 1800, hiking became an expression of a new attitude to life. At a time of a Romantic turn to nature, artists sought inspiration in unspoilt landscapes away from the cities. The painter Heinrich Reinhold (1788-1825) was one of those who travelled new paths: From 1818, he travelled through the foothills of the Alps and penetrated into remote regions of Italy.
To mark the 200th anniversary of his death, the Museum Fürstenfeldbruck (Museum Fürstenfeldbruck) is dedicating a cabinet exhibition to this important artist. Reinhold's works are complemented by those of his artist friends who accompanied him on his travels. The exhibition centres on the following questions: Which places did the painters visit, where did they stay and what means did they use to capture their experiences of nature in an authentic and atmospheric way? Drawings, oil sketches and paintings provide an impressive insight into their artistic quest.
The exhibition is complemented by a contemporary perspective by the artist Iska Jehl. In the Davor-Danach group of works, she examines landscapes and vistas that exert a timeless fascination. In this way, she encourages us to question our view of nature as a backdrop.
