The city of Würzburg is celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Peasants' War in 2025 and is inviting the public on a unique journey into the past. As part of these celebrations, the Museum für Franken is presenting the special exhibition "1525 - Franconia demands freedom" in the historic Kelterhalle.
The exhibition offers a fascinating insight into the events of 1525 and focuses on the motivations and motives of those involved: Why did peasants fight against their masters? How did citizens in the Franconian towns position themselves? What role did the lords, prince-bishops, abbots and abbesses play in the escalation of the conflict? An innovative presentation with highlight objects from the museum's own collections, previously unseen source texts and illustrations from the period as well as interactive stations convey the complex topic of the Peasants' War in an understandable way.
