Out of Place
26.11.2026 - 30.05.2027 ,
Museum Fünf Kontinente (Museum Five Continents)
Today, more than 117 million people worldwide are living as refugees, many of them in camps – which were only ever intended to be temporary – for years or even decades. The special exhibition ‘Out of Place’ draws attention to these places and, above all, to the people who live there: not as victims of a humanitarian crisis, but as artists.
The exhibition is based on an initiative by the Fondazione Imago Mundi in 18 of the world’s largest refugee camps. It brings together works and life stories from 264 people from camps in Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Rwanda, Algeria, Jordan and Afghanistan, as well as from along the migration routes across the Mediterranean, from Ukraine, and from South and Central America.
The exhibition is expanded to include artistic contributions by Sepideh Akbarzadeh, Lydia Bergida, Delschad Numan Khorschid and Niaz Naseri, who have found a new home in Munich.
The special exhibition was organised in collaboration with the Fondazione Imago Mundi and the European Janusz Korczak Academy e. V.
