As in many other countries, Israeli architecture from the 1950s to the 1970s was dominated by brutalism and an expressive use of exposed concrete. Today, many of the buildings from this period are viewed critically or disdainfully by the general public. As a result, many of these buildings are threatened with demolition. The Israeli photographer and media artist Eli Singalovski has taken on the task of photographically capturing the raw beauty and richness of form of these buildings in Munich's twin city Be'er Sheva, in other cities in Israel, but also worldwide. The utopian founding spirit that combined with the concrete aesthetic in the construction of Israel is omnipresent in his photographs.

Singalovski presents the brutalist buildings centred in dramatic black and white shots and inanimate, with no visible human activity. The long exposure time at night directs the focus away from the ageing materiality of exposed concrete towards the futuristic structure and plasticity of the architecture.
