MEWO Kunsthalle (MEWO Art Gallery)
The funding programme "Kultur.Gemeinschaften" of the Kulturstiftung der Länder (Cultural Foundation of the Federal States) enabled the MEWO Kunsthalle (MEWO Art Gallery) to digitise the painterly work of Josef Madlener in a new and reproducible form in the first half of 2023 as part of the 'Memmingen Digital' project. The intensive study of the individual works in the collection resulted in the idea for a serial exhibition that presents different aspects of this pictorial treasure in three chapters.
The landscapes of his homeland were a frequent subject for Josef Madlener. Many of the pictures are in small format and very precisely worked. Here he proves to be a precise observer of nature, accurately documenting the rolling hills of the foothills of the Alps and the flora of the Benninger Ried.
