Luftmuseum Amberg (Amberg Air Museum)
The study "Aves - Birds" by Hamburg photographer Tom Krausz is based on the approach of allowing physiognomic observations and visualising them without interpretation or judgement. The presentation reflects his fascination with the species richness of feathered creatures, with all the associated types, faces, the so-called "character heads". The viewer can expect restless, tired and lazy looks, but also wide-awake hunter's eyes full of pride or curiosity. The paintings were created in the garden at home as well as on the island of Heligoland, the bird parks in Walsrode and Niendorf/Baltic Sea and on international trips, for example to New Zealand, Galapagos and Scotland. Many of the birds depicted are now threatened with extinction.
Tom Krausz is a freelance photographer and filmmaker and has now produced more than 130 reportages. Many of his photographs have been presented in national and international exhibitions, for example at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, the Jewish Museum Rendsburg, the Jerusalem National Theatre (Israel) and the Galerie am Lindenhof Zurich (Switzerland). In 2011, the photojournalist received the international CORINE book prize and in 2018 the ITB prize for the most beautiful literary travel book.
The exhibition is located in the Gothic house chapel.
