21.07.2023 - 19.01.2038 ,
Ludwig Erhard Zentrum - LEZ (Ludwig Erhard Center)
The exhibition focuses on the Kissinger family, their roots in Fürth and their moving story, tracing the Kissingers’ journey since the beginning of the 20th century across an area of around 120 square metres.
It spans the arc from the happy childhood of the two brothers, Henry and Walter, in Fürth, through the bitter loss of their homeland under National Socialism and their new beginning in the USA, to the remarkable careers of the two men in science, politics and business, as well as their repeated returns to their hometown since the 1950s.
On display are previously unknown documents – particularly from Fürth’s local history – as well as unique artefacts and touching private exhibits, such as a number of personal items that the family were able to take with them when they fled to the USA and which are now kept by their grandchildren and great-grandchildren as special mementos. In addition, the family’s everyday objects, audio recordings, photographs and documents tell a captivating story and invite visitors to get to know Henry Kissinger – the man, the politician and the world interpreter – from a completely new perspective, and to experience him in the context of his closest family.
