Whether novels, poems, theatre plays or non-fiction texts - the world of books would be inconceivable without the work of translators. They are the ones who make an exchange across linguistic and cultural borders possible in the first place.

The bequests and legacies of translators are therefore of great importance for literary studies - and therefore also for literary archives. How is the process organised in which a new text is created that was previously available in another language? Which texts are translated at all and for what reasons? What role do publishers, editors and market mechanisms play here? Is there a special "poetics of translation"? These and many other questions invite us to research such archives.
