Museums can also be outdoors. With “Buntes Garten Ciao,” the Lenbachhaus is taking its art into the garden, onto the forecourt, and into the surrounding area, using art to foster connections.

In the summer of 2026, a variety of events will take place around the Lenbachhaus, including performances, workshops, walks, dance events, theater, karaoke, and coffee gatherings. The program stems from a desire for colorful, diverse, solidarity-driven, accessible, climate-just, queer sprawl.

We take a look into the garden: Polka-dotted beings hang from ropes and communicate with the soil, both—the acrobats and the microbiome—are in danger. Cyberfeminist witches murmur against the exploitation of natural resources. In a corner of the garden, party guests sing plant karaoke, while a climate activist listens to the sounds of disappearing trees. What happens in shared public space yet remains hidden from view?

At the same time, the long-term redesign of the forecourt begins: We’re starting right at our own front door, because there’s hardly any shade or seating there, but recently a great bookcase for everyone was added. As part of the “Buntes Garten Ciao” project, shaded water benches and a fountain will be added.

Come on by—it’s free for everyone and outdoors!
