From mid-August 2025, Dan Flavin's late work "Untitled (For Ksenija)" will be shown again at the Kunstbau.
The exhibition space designed by architect Uwe Kiessler was opened in 1994, and Flavin created the impressive light installation especially for the occasion. Four tracks attached to the ceiling support industrially manufactured fluorescent tubes in the colours green, blue, yellow and red - the only artistic material Flavin has used since the early 1960s. The light installation forms a symbiosis with the architecture and the arrangement of the light rails reveals a connection to the underground station below.
The artwork transforms the space through its differentiated colour projections, which immerse not only the floor and walls, but also the bodies of visitors in luminous compositions. Flavin's installation thus enables a sensual reinterpretation of architecture, space and self-perception.
Heiner Friedrich and Philippa de Ménil donated this work to the Lenbachhaus in memory of their parents Harald and Erika Friedrich as well as John and Dominique de Ménil. It is firmly anchored in the collection and has been shown regularly since 1994 in the spirit of the donors.
