In the columned hall of the listed property, 500 original pieces of crockery from the court kitchens of the Guelphs are now on display in the Copper Museum (Kupfermuseum) exhibition area, which has been extended by 250 square metres. At the sensational auction of inventory from the Guelph castles, which took place in 2005 at Marienburg Castle near Hanover, several royal copper convolutions were also offered, whose cultural-historical significance was recognised by the collector and museum founder Siegfried Kuhnke and acquired for his museum. He had the pieces professionally restored and documented. In the course of time, the Foundation then purchased further important objects from other collectors in order to show the wealth of forms of the tableware in the respective reigns of the Guelph rulers. The significance of the preserved historical tableware pieces - marked with stamps such as the ruler's monogram, the respective palace kitchen, inventory numbers and master's mark - is exemplary for the history of royal cooking and dining culture in the 19th century. This is the first time that preserved copper tableware from the Guelph dynasty has been shown publicly in such abundance and variations of form: Baking and jelly moulds, pots, pans, frying groves, kettles, bowls, ladles and much more. These are exhibits that fortunately survived the metal collections of the First and Second World Wars and were not melted down. This gave collector Siegfried Kuhnke the impulse to show this unique collection of show kitchens in an expanded permanent exhibition in Upper Bavaria. The magnificent red-gold display and utility objects from the 18th/19th centuries to around 1900 have been accompanied by themed paintings, graphics, sculptures and furniture, and a collection of bronze mortars from four centuries has been decorated as a small but exquisite apothecary. We look forward to your visit from Wednesday 22 March 2023!Until Holy Saturday, 8 April 2023, admission is free for visitors. Please note that the museum is closed on Good Friday.
