To mark the 100th birthday of the artist Michael Mathias Prechtl (1926 - 2003), the Kunstvilla is dedicating a one-room exhibition to his multifaceted portrait work from 28 March to 5 July 2026. Works from the museum's own collection as well as selected loans from the City of Nuremberg's Graphic Art Collection will be on display.
The exhibition spans two decades of his artistic work: Prechtl's flair for character and zeitgeist is revealed, from his exploration of Rembrandt to his portrait of the long-time director of the art collections, Wilhelm Schwemmer, to the honorary citizen Hermann Kesten.
Prechtl's 100th birthday is being celebrated throughout the city: The Albrecht Dürer House is showing prints from Prechtl's trip to the Netherlands, while the Langwasser Community Centre is focusing on his posters - a multifaceted look at the work of an artist who shaped Nuremberg like no other.
