In October 2025, the artist Oskar Koller (1925 - 2004) would have been 100 years old. To mark the occasion, the Kunstvilla is showing a large-scale retrospective of the exceptional Franconian artist, who reached a supra-regional audience with his paintings, under the title "For the Joy of Painting".
The exhibition traces Koller's creative career and life and presents the artist's entire municipal collection of around 40 paintings from all phases of his work for the first time. The collection, which has been assembled by the City of Nuremberg for over 50 years, is complemented by a selection of prints as well as high-calibre loans from the estate and private collections. They demonstrate how Koller developed his own style between figuration and abstraction.
The exhibition is accompanied by a collection catalogue with an introductory text by Hans Peter Miksch, former private secretary to Oskar Koller and long-time director of the kunst galerie fürth, in which all the paintings in the Kunstvilla collection are documented.
