On the way

10 years Kunstvilla

02.06.2024 - 22.09.2024 ,
Kunstvilla im KunstKulturQuartier (Art Villa in the KunstKulturQuartier)

The Kunstvilla, which opened in 2014, fills a gap in Nuremberg's museum landscape. Due to its history as a hop merchant's and banker's villa owned by Jews, the Kunstvilla is not only a listed building, but also a historical monument to Nuremberg's Jewish history. Within its main focus, art in Nuremberg from 1900 to the present day, it has been setting monographic and thematic accents with its exhibition programme since its opening.

The anniversary exhibition "Auf den Weg gebracht" ("On the move") focuses on various areas of the Kunstvilla's museum work and reorganises the art museum. The retrospective is combined with a preview of where the Kunstvilla can still develop. In the ten years of its existence, the Kunstvilla has presented over 400 artistic positions from the past and present, including works by around 180 living artists.

While contemporary interventions in the permanent exhibition scrutinise the historical works for their relevance to the present, loans are arranged in the special exhibition area as a commentary on the existing collection. Photographic portraits of Nuremberg artists by Stephan Minx and Maria Bayer, photographs by the DAMN group and sound installations by Peter Gahn and Adam Cmiel round off the anniversary show.
