Drama. Dance. Colour. Everything strives for harmony, but is exaggeration. One could seek refuge in humour when humans and animals clash in silly simplification. A psychological phenomenon that good Germans love to show off on the dance floor: You dance, but you can't surrender to the music. In Sebastian Maa's works, fear, shame and intellectual delusions of control inhibit laughter. He turns the tables: the colour surfaces demand an emotional reaction, as the chosen form means that the events defy any kind of political correctness.
After completing a master's degree in biology and neuroscience, Maas completed a diploma in fine art at the AdbK Munich and was a master student of Karin Kneffel. He has recently exhibited in Bonn, Berlin, Miami and Munich.
