Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki (1726–1801) is one of the most important graphic artists of the 18th century. In addition to images for the pocket calendars that were popular at the time, he also created illustrations for contemporary literary works such as Lessing's Minna von Barnhelm and Goethe's Werther.
Duke Franz Friedrich Anton of Coburg was enthusiastic about his works and acquired over 4,000 prints and around 200 hand drawings by the Berlin-based artist for his copperplate cabinet.
On the occasion of the 300th birthday of Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki, the studio exhibition in the art collections of the Veste Coburg provides an insight into his diverse work.
