What does the salt do in the museum display case?
Museum display cases can be sustainably climate-controlled using saturated salt solutions. The process has been known for a long time, but has been superseded by supposedly better methods - except in Coburg and a few other museums around the world. This sustainable method is now experiencing a new upswing on the way to a more environmentally friendly museum - especially as the salts can also be used to remove pollutants from the air in the display cases that could damage our museum artefacts.
Together with Saarland University, the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart and over 60 museums in Germany and abroad, the salt solutions are now being scrutinised and tested for their suitability for museums.
The exhibition in the studio takes a look behind the scenes of the museum and vividly presents the results of this exciting research project.
