Carsten Fock’s artistic work navigates the interplay between landscape, the history of painting and post-war German-German history. For the artist, who lives in Bamberg and Vejby, Denmark, landscape is not a neutral motif, but one imbued with historical and art-historical significance; through painting, drawing and installation, he critically examines the cultural memory that continues to exert its influence into the present day. In the exhibition ‘Fault Lines’, he explores the extent to which current social upheavals – such as the shift to the right, social division and the polarisation of public discourse – can be reflected in aesthetic forms, and what responsibility painting bears in times of political uncertainty. He brings moods, ruptures and tensions to life in his paintings – in landscapes, architecture and figures.
The exhibition is curated by Nina Holm
