D. Schuerer - Mosteiro Schuerer
16.01.2025 - 02.03.2025 ,
Kunstraum München (Art Space Munich)
The conceptual artist Daniel Schürer follows a "hospitable" concept of art, for which he
his first art space Via113 (founded in 1993 in a former shoemaker's workshop)
empty shopping arcades, smokehouses, stairwells, hop kilns, railway stations,
car parks, barracks, stables or publishing houses, etc. into vital art locations for an
(indefinite) period of time.
The audience permutates from the role of viewers to guests and participants in his interventions.
of his interventions, lingering and coming together are the yardsticks of his
mostly installative and expansive interventions. Among other things, these are organised as a monastery, a
dance floor, as a restaurant, café or hotel, music club, radio station, newspaper publisher or fictitious
fictitious company, such as the Schürer & Töchter shipbuilding yard. Negotiations
These temporarily established art spaces or scenarios are used to negotiate social themes
"such as the 'nothing', the 'community', the 'togetherness' and the associated
'against each other', occasionally in words, often playfully," writes the artist.
Schürer's approach can also be read as humanistic; his ability and willingness to mediate
-his ability and willingness to communicate manage to address the thoroughly complex references in his work without
so that the openings of his extensive projects sometimes resemble folk festivals, where art-loving and
where guests close to and distant from the arts, young and old (accompanied by simple, extremely tasty
food) come together.
