Together with the Berlin artist Lisa Hofmann (*1992), Olaf Metzel (*1952 in Berlin) will focus on socio-political areas of tension around housing issues, displacement processes and discrimination structures.

The exhibition documents and negotiates social realities and urban situations from a historical as well as a contemporary perspective: Metzel takes up his 1982 project "Türkenwohnung Abstand 12 000,- DM VB" (Turkish flat at a distance of 12,000 DM) - an examination of everyday racism in the treatment of "guest workers" in the FRG - for which he rented a flat in Berlin-Wedding that a family of Turkish origin had been evicted from shortly before in order to realise a sculptural and filmic intervention. Hofmann's film "Auszug aus" from 2021 is equally unsparing in its reflection of violent intrusion into private space. The emphatic long-term observation follows in intimate scenes the fate of two protagonists who are evicted from their flats in the same district and makes the absurd logics of the housing market and politics visible in pointed images without falling into polemical patterns.
