When you hear Christo and Jeanne Claude, you think of spectacular wrapping installations such as the Reichstag in Berlin and the Arc de Triomphe in Paris or large-scale installations such as the Surrounded Islands in Miami and The Floating Piers in Lake Iseo.

This and much more can be seen in the exhibition: from the project sketches to the original drawings and collages to the realised projects and fascinating photographs by Wolfgang Volz. The exhibition also offers a captivating insight into the lifelong journey of this artist duo. Their art is an art that draws its appeal from a fascination with unique, unrepeatable events.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude were both born on 13 June 1935, Christo in Bulgaria and Jeanne-Claude in Morocco. Their paths crossed for the first time in 1958 in Paris, where they finally came together as a couple. The couple designed and realised their projects together from the 1960s onwards, including the installation "The Gates" in New York's Central Park (1979-2005), "The Floating Piers" on Lake Iseo in Italy (2014-16) and the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin (1971-95). With the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin, the artist couple gained fame in Germany. Their monumental projects became temporary pilgrimage sites all over the world. After Jeanne-Claude's death in 2009, Christo continued his artistic work alone until his death in 2020.
