Nicola Reiter: Aftərmähdag

In the Kunsthaus’s storage space, designer and artist Nicola Reiter has been exhibiting her long-term project *Aftərmähdag* since March 2026; the project combines situated knowledge from her immediate surroundings with artistic research. Since 2020, she has been taking photographs on walks around her home in the Oberallgäu, capturing traces of agricultural work. Through her images and in conversations with farming families about their farms and activities, she explores the structures, conditions and transformations of working environments, as well as the relationship between people, farm animals and cultural landscapes. During the second phase, starting at the end of July, further materials will be gradually added to the installation. In interviews, farmers talk about giving up farming, carrying on and the development of their farms. Photographs of disused and repurposed barns, alongside portraits of farmers from the younger generation, highlight both the continuities and the gaps in contemporary agriculture. A research table featuring private artefacts and references from the worlds of art and science offers an insight into the interim findings and background of the project, which continues in the Kunsthaus’s attic in parallel with the agricultural season, from spring to late autumn.

Nicola Reiter (born 1975 in Kempten, Allgäu) has lived in Betzigau near Kempten since 2016. She studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. Since 2005, she has been working freelance as a book designer and graphic designer, as well as on independent artistic projects, which she exhibits as installations and spatial installations and publishes in book form at venues including Kunstraum Köşk in Munich, Lothringer 13 Halle, Munich, at the station urbaner kulturen / nGbK in Berlin-Hellersdorf, and at the Atelierwerkstatt in Marktoberdorf. She undertakes commissioned work for museums such as the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, the Museum Folkwang in Essen and the Berlinische Galerie. She has taught at institutions including the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and runs an afternoon design programme at the Montessori School in Kempten.
