Inside Streets
Ariane Kipp and Cris Koch
15.03.2025 - 15.06.2025 ,
Kunsthaus im KunstKulturQuartier Nürnberg (Kunsthaus in the KunstKulturQuartier Nuremberg)
The INSIDE STREETS exhibition with works by Ariane Kipp (Berlin) and Cris Koch (Munich) focuses on posters in and from the public space.
Since 2022, Ariane Kipp has been working intensively on transforming posters from public spaces into sculptural objects. The colourful works are formed and shaped from the stiffened affiche paper of the billboards into her own sculptural objects and then cast in epoxy resin and thus fixed. The artist, who studied sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti "Pietro Vannucci" Perugia, Italy, under Professor
G.-F. Ercolanoni, places great emphasis on the deconstructive aspect of the original advertising messages in the language and the recontextualisation of these through artistic intervention.
Cris Koch works on the same object. He also takes excerpts from urban advertising landscapes on billboards and re-contextualises them. While Kipp focuses on the word, for Cris Koch, who studied under Jochen Flinzer at the Nuremberg Academy, it is the image that takes centre stage. Koch rediscovers both the image behind the image and, through the cut-outs, the reference to a visually given formal language of his own.
The exhibition by the kindred spirits of artist and artist is located in the border area between contemporary art, photography and literature and refers to the Affichistes from the 1950s in France, but can also be categorised in the broadest sense as contemporary street art or urban art.
