Michael Triegel. Beyond the Visible
06.09.2026 - 17.01.2027 ,
Kunsthalle Schweinfurt (Schweinfurt Art Gallery)
Michael Triegel (born in Erfurt in 1968) is one of the most significant and, at the same time, most fascinating contemporary German artists. With his works, which are characterised by religious themes, he has also had a lasting influence on the Franconian art scene. The Diocese of Würzburg, in particular, possesses a remarkably large number of his works – probably more than almost any other German bishopric.
Among the outstanding groups of works within the diocese are the winged altarpiece in the parish church of St Augustine in Dettelbach, the altars for St Oswald in Baunach and St Lawrence in Ebern, and the panel painting of the ‘Blessing Christ’ in St Mauritius in Wiesentheid.
The exhibition spans a period from early works of the 1990s to current works from the year 2025. On display are altarpieces, portraits, still lifes, preliminary studies, paintings and graphic works that impressively illustrate the wide range of his creative output.
