Wood sculpture in its traditional technique hardly plays a role in contemporary art. One exception is the wood sculptor Thomas Hildenbrand (*1980). Inspired by works from the Gothic and Baroque periods to the present day, Thomas Hildenbrand has found his own unmistakable visual language. His sculptures are emotional, narrative and have a direct effect on the viewer. Kunsthalle Schweinfurt (Schweinfurt Art Gallery) is now honouring the 2021 Triennial winner with a major solo exhibition. A cross-section of his work to date will be presented: around 30 wooden sculptures as well as drawings, bronze sculptures and paintings.
