Can you hear the mountains whispering? An artistic search for traces

Kunsthalle Kempten (Kempten Art Gallery)

Who wouldn't want to follow the call of the mountains into the Allgäu landscape! The Allgäu artists Sarah Degenhardt, Maximilian Erbacher, Nikolaus Faßlrinner, Waltraud Funk, Anna Dorothea Klug and Stephan Malane have dedicated four conceptual, multimedia works to the landscape in the region, drawing on data, measuring instruments and imaging techniques from the natural sciences, among other things. Bringing together different digital technologies, scientific methods and artistic approaches, they searched for and collected traces at selected locations that are inscribed in the landscapes and refer to existing or vanished forms of life. Their nature data excursions ultimately resulted in something significantly different from picturesque panoramic views or the familiar mountain peak reproductions. Rather, their search was for the hidden knowledge of the landscape in an audible utterance, similar to the whispering of the mountains.
