Aschaffenburg - a "cultural city" in the best sense of the word: twelve museums offer impressive cultural diversity in a small area. The contemporary art scene is particularly lively. But how did this come about? Coincidence or a deeper history?

The occasion for this major survey exhibition is the 100th birthday of several outstanding artistic personalities who had a formative influence on the post-war period in Aschaffenburg: Walter Helm († 1987), Erwin Rager († 1991), Joachim Schmidt († 2017), Wera Schröner († 2019), Gunter Ullrich († 2018) and Ernst Vollmer († 2017).

The exhibition explores the question of whether this remarkable cultural development in Aschaffenburg is the result of a lucky coincidence or has a deeper historical basis.

"Where from - where to? Art in Aschaffenburg 1945-1976" shows the creative development in Aschaffenburg after the war and offers an impressive overview of various techniques and innovative forms of expression.
