The exhibition "Here and Now" brings together four different artistic positions. The starting point for the selection are parallels in the artists' biographies. They or their families come from different places in Eastern Europe and their lives were shaped by historical events of the 20th century. They found a new centre of life in Regensburg.
The photographer Michael Bry (*1924), who fled from Wroclaw to escape the National Socialists, lived in Chile, California and Portugal before settling in Regensburg in 2005. Throughout his career, he portrayed people in their everyday lives, landscapes and architecture. The conceptual artist Alina Buga (*1971) works intermedially with installations and photography. She moves between Regensburg and Bucharest, exploring the connections between East and West in her projects. The installation artist and graphic designer Peter Dorn (1938-2024) came to Regensburg from Czechoslovakia after the Second World War. By rearranging and artistically structuring everyday materials, he gave them an unexpected appearance. The painter and graphic artist Annette Lucks (*1952) grew up in Regensburg as the child of refugee parents. She interweaves drawings with texts, creating pictorial spaces in which past and present overlap.
Different media and techniques come together in the exhibition: from painting, graphics and photography to ceramics, installation and conceptual art. The interplay of the exhibited works results in exciting contrasts and surprising cross-connections.
