17.05.2024 - 08.09.2024 ,
Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie (Art Forum East German Gallery)
Ewa Partum (*1945) is an important pioneer of conceptual art and feminist art, which she has characterised both in Poland and throughout Europe since the 1960s/70s. She is dedicated to gender issues and analyses how much autonomy and equality is possible in the public sphere. During the period of martial law in Poland from late 1981 to mid-1983, she was one of the artists who protested against repression, dismissals and imprisonment under the banner of the Solidarność trade union. Most of Partum's work fell victim to the censorship of the totalitarian socialist regime of the time. After several attempts, she emigrated to Berlin in 1982, where she has lived and worked ever since.
To mark the award of the Lovis Corinth Prize 2024, the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie (Art Forum East German Gallery) is honouring Ewa Partum with an exhibition. It is the artist's first solo presentation in a Deutsches Museum (German Museum). It provides a retrospective of the artist's diverse oeuvre from the 1960s to the present day. On display are exhibits created as part of her performances in public spaces in Poland and Berlin, many of which show her naked body: Photographs, films and installations.
