I Want to Believe

In their exhibition "I want to believe", Kasia and Olaf Prusik-Lutz take us on a journey into the world of the improbable. Aliens, ghosts, strangers and science fiction, but also earthly dreams, yearnings and childlike imaginings form the starting point for the pictures, drawings and videos that were created especially for the presentation in Fürth.

In their works, they take up the obvious, the things that constantly surround them and turn themselves into figures in their art. Their often co-operative work always revolves around the question of the simultaneity of different identities, those of artist, musician, curator, parent and breadwinner. Art becomes the field in which Kasia and Olaf Prusik-Lutz deal with the conditions of being a family and an artist. Without distortion and with subtle ironic refractions, they circle their own life circumstances in order to transform them into sometimes absurd pictorial narratives and remove them from the everyday or even the probable: The children in the menacing beam of light from a UFO or ghostly wrapped in an oversized jumper that doubles as a hiding place. A video shows the artist at a potter's wheel, pulling up an invisible bowl. Something inexplicable always resonates. The physical becomes unstable. The visible becomes hidden. Aliens appear on the scene.

What can, should, must we believe? Can dreams come true and elementary things succeed? In the chaos of aspiration and reality, Kasia and Olaf Prusik-Lutz / Atelier 2 2025's exhibition "I want to believe" combines the various aspects of the mysterious, ghosts, longings and the real. The title alludes to the series "The X-Files", in which the main character persistently believes in the improbable.

In addition to a new video work and a drawing over ten metres long in the form of a revolving picture, a new series of monumental canvases was also created for the exhibition, in which we literally encounter the figures in incredible size.
