Susanne Roth - I can see it in the glamour

The Fürth-based artist Susanne Roth is known for her subtle, minimalist works on paper. The use of found used paper, which bears traces of its long storage, is one of the specific features of her work. In Susanne Roth's work, they become the support material for sensitive settings using colour, pencil and collage, but also for precise interventions in the surface of the support by folding, scratching, scoring or scraping.
These both gentle and violent interventions are equally inspired by the material and its own life. The artistic creative process is also characterised by experiences that the artist gathers in her encounters with nature or culture in the form of literary and musical works.
Susanne Roth often works in series of up to 30 sheets: Here, the repetitive line or scratching movement proves to be a meditative act and a time-stretched dialogue with the material. Her works thus become a repository of elementary experiences of time, persistence and contemplation. They also demonstrate the great art of reduction and reveal depth in the use of line, colour and surface. Susanne Roth's works invite intensive contemplation - also because concentration and taking time are directly inscribed in them.
To mark the awarding of the City of Fürth 2024 Culture Prize, kunst galerie fürth (art gallery fürth) is dedicating a solo exhibition to her. On display is a selection from various series that have been created in recent years to date. For the exhibition, the artist is creating a new work from specially produced paper. Shiny metallic sections, arranged in a star shape, form the eye-catcher and refer to the title of the exhibition "Ich seh's am Glanze".
