22 years Künstlerhaus Marktoberdorf (House of artists Marktoberdorf)

Until now, these treasures of regional culture, including works by artists of national importance, have never been shown in their entirety. In its statutes, the Kunst- und Kulturstiftung Dr. Geiger-Haus (Dr. Geiger House Art and Culture Foundation) has not only committed itself to ensuring continuous exhibition activity, but has also set itself the goal of collecting and preserving contemporary works of art in the fields of painting, graphics and sculpture. The art collection, which has grown continuously in recent years, forms the basis of the museum's collection.

Since 1978, the town of Marktoberdorf has organised the annual "Ostallgäuer Kunstausstellung" (East Allgäu Art Exhibition) to give regional artists the opportunity to present themselves to a larger audience in a museum context. Thanks to purchases from this exhibition series, the Künstlerhaus has an impressive and representative selection of contemporary Swabian art. This includes more than 250 paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures, which are stored in the basement in a specially constructed 50 square metre museum depot.
