Kathrin Hubl's sculptural works, often in the form of multi-part wall or relief series, are, among other things, a play on the materiality of the material. Under her hands, wood is visually transformed into a soft, malleable object: a delicate, thin cloth with a border or a sponge tied together. In her depictions, she draws on the everyday, the almost banal. With a great deal of humour, she makes us aware of our limitations, if only briefly, until we recognise the true work of art.
The exhibition at Wechterswinkel Monastery, which provides an insight into the work of the last two decades, is the first comprehensive solo exhibition of the sculptor from Oerlenbach (Bad Kissingen district). She has mastered woodworking to perfection, both technically and formally. Her training at the state vocational school for wood sculptors in Bischofsheim in the Rhön region has had a significant influence on her craftsmanship, as has the master school in Ebern. In Wechterswinkel
she is also showing works made of rubber, stone, mixed media and corrugated cardboard in addition to her numerous works in wood. Encounters with Kathrin Hubl's works are always an exciting experience.
