Michael Ende

Life and work in texts and pictures

31.05.2025 - 05.10.2025 ,
Kloster Seeon (Seeon Monastery)

With "Jim Knopf", "Momo" and "The Neverending Story", Michael Ende (1929-1995) created classics of children's and young adult literature that have been translated into over 40 languages and continue to inspire today. As one of the first authors of German-language fantastic literature, he appealed not only to children and young people, but also to adults. His biography was characterised by detours, but always dedicated to art and creativity. He received the German Youth Book Prize twice: in 1961 for "Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer" and in 1974
for "Momo". Ende's works have been made into films, adapted for theatre and opera and set to music. The richly illustrated exhibition shows stages from his life and work and his development as a writer.
as a writer. This travelling exhibition of the Internationale Jugendbibliothek (International Youth Library) Munich can be seen in Seeon from 31 May to 5 October.

In the outdoor area of the Mesnerhaus, the vocational school for wood sculptors at the schools for wood and design of the district of Upper Bavaria in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is presenting sculptures that were created in 2023 as part of "50 Years of Momo". Large figures were sculpted from spruce trunks using chainsaws, angle grinders and traditional tools.
