The exhibition ‘Untold’ takes you on a journey through the lives of queer people in the Allgäu – that is, people who are gay, lesbian or bisexual, who identify as intersex or transgender, or who consciously refuse to be pigeonholed.
Alongside key historical milestones in the queer movement, ‘Untold’ also tells the stories of queer people from the Allgäu over the last hundred years. Through archival research, historian Michaela Eigmüller has traced numerous life stories of queer Allgäu residents, which are featured in the exhibition.
The exhibition centres on six personal stories: they recount the lives of queer Allgäu residents in both urban and rural settings; their daily lives, their struggles, loneliness, otherness and hope.
Another centrepiece of the exhibition are interactive hands-on stations:
Put together your own DIY catalogue
Test your knowledge of queer animals in a fun way
Cast your vote and show: just how colourful is the Allgäu really?
Numerous initiatives and associations are also presenting themselves. Topics such as ‘marriage for all’ and insights into Kempten’s party scene complete the picture of a diverse queer Allgäu.
Through their openness, they aim to encourage young people in the Allgäu and show that queer life exists even outside the big cities.
