For the sixth time, the gallery in the Schlosspavillon, in collaboration with the Akademieverein München and the Kallmann Museum, is exhibiting works by students from the Academy of Fine Arts. On this occasion, the Iranian artist Zahra Ghadimian transforms the pavilion into a dense, physically tangible landscape with a large-scale installation of ceramic sculptures. The elements serve as vessels of memory, presence and absence. The result is a fragile urban structure that can be understood as an inner, fluid space, within which Ghadimian processes her experiences of a life marked by constant relocation.
Zahra Ghadimian was born in Maragheh, Iran. She later lived in Karaj near Tehran, then in Florence and finally in Munich, where she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts this year. These repeated changes of location have significantly influenced her exploration of space, memory, identity and belonging.
Her installation in the Schlosspavillon, ‘For You, Who Remain Within Me’, consists of numerous ceramic sculptures of varying sizes, scattered throughout the space. The individual forms are inspired by ancient Iranian architecture and are reminiscent of houses, but also of the human body. The openings serve both as windows and as metaphors for the heart – places through which light, memory and connection can pass. Red woollen threads run through these openings, symbolising fragile relationships that endure across distance and time. Each individual sculpture in this installation represents a person in Ghadimian’s life – those she has lost, those she had to leave behind, and those who have remained.
Ghadimian’s installation is a work full of poetry and narrative power, exploring life and our connections to people and places across the ages.
