With the donation of Maria Seltmann, the branch museum of the Neue Sammlung, Staatliches Museum für angewandte Kunst München - the first of its kind in Bavaria - came into possession of its own holdings in 1994. The contributions from various Bavarian state museums exhibited in Weiden are thus ideally complemented.
The Weiden entrepreneur Dr h.c. Wilhelm Seltmann (1895-1967), himself the owner of several porcelain factories, succeeded in amassing a collection of Chinese porcelain from the 17th to the early 20th century within just two decades of the last century. It took another quarter of a century before this extraordinary private collection was presented to the public for the first time in 1994. The well over 100 exquisite exhibits from the entire Qing period (1644-1912) can now be seen again in a new display at the Ceramics Museum in Weiden.
