Crazy Machines! Vehicles, robots and other ingenious inventions

Children's literature is full of funny inventions and fantastic machines: There is the heat-free regulator, flying bicycles or the good-morning wake-up machine of the two Finnish super inventors Tatu and Patu. The exhibition presents a selection of these curious inventions. There are marvellous vehicles to marvel at that float, drive, glide and circle on land, on water, in the air or even through time.

But how do they work, and are there perhaps crazy functional mechanisms lurking behind seemingly ordinary machines? Could it be that cats actually lick the cutlery clean in the dishwasher or that excavators are used to prepare cake batter?

The exhibition also takes a look at inventions that were once considered crazy, but are now a natural part of human life, such as robots and computers.
It explores the question of the relationship between man and machine: What makes them different? And why is it so tempting to keep inventing new machines? What happens when machines or robots get out of hand and people lose control of them?

Inventors know this best, which is why the exhibition also sets out in search of the people who invented the machines, vehicles and devices. A selection of sketches and construction plans show how the process of invention works.

Visitors have the opportunity to slip into the role of an inventor themselves. They can also explore some inventions virtually as augmented reality.
