The winter exhibition "Make a wish!" at the Bamberg Historical Museum presents a world full of wishes that characterise our inner experience. Visitors will encounter perspectives from psychology, theology and philosophy in this multifaceted exhibition, shedding light on how wishes influence our thoughts, feelings and actions. The exhibition also explores the moral questions raised by desires and the spiritual meanings attributed to them.
The exhibition shows the central role that wishes play in human life - be it in fairy tales, literature or films, where they inspire our imagination. It also examines how advertising and social media shape and manipulate our desires and influence our consumer behaviour. Visitors will also learn more about the power and danger of "false" wishes and curses.
A variety of objects from the collections of the city museums are presented - from archaeological finds to historical toys and amulets from all over the world to the latest objects of desire. There are numerous hands-on stations, interactive media stations and creative activities for all visitors to formulate wishes for themselves, others or the whole of humanity. Children can also playfully explore the themes and discover their own wishes.
A varied supporting programme accompanies the exhibition, which is sponsored by the Oberfrankenstiftung and the Sparkasse Bamberg Foundation.
