In its studio exhibition at the Bamberg Historical Museum, the Bamberg Historical Society presents highlights from its extensive collections. As part of a new concept, different objects will be regularly brought into focus in future in order to do justice to the diversity and importance of the rich collection.
Founded on 8 July 1830, the association now has almost 900 members. It specialises in the history of the former Bamberg Abbey from prehistory to contemporary history. Among other things, the association owns a large collection of art and cultural history artefacts. During the first 40 years of the association's history in particular, numerous donations were received, especially from the wealthy members of the population: prehistoric artefacts, coins and medals, manuscripts and books, prints, paintings and works of art. At present, the association's primary concern is the restoration and cataloguing of its extensive collection. Parts of the collection are kept by the museums of the city of Bamberg and are included in the exhibitions of the Historical Museum.
