Nature Walk in Karlsfeld
From barren wasteland to a cultural landscape
17.05.2026 - 18.10.2026 ,
Heimatmuseum Karlsfeld (Local history museum Karlsfeld)
In this year’s special exhibition, the Karlsfeld Local History Museum takes an in-depth look at the profound changes to the landscape of the municipality over the more than 200 years of its existence.
Using historical maps, striking aerial photographs and around a hundred other images, the exhibition traces the history of the area from its moorland origins, through land cleared for agriculture, to the residential area of today. Historical exhibits and informative display panels explore the individual themes and explain how a deserted, untouched moorland area became a cultural landscape providing living and recreational space for more than 20,000 people.
The travelling exhibition “NaturWandel” by the Dachau History Workshop is integrated into the exhibition.
The official opening of the special exhibition will take place on International Museum Day, 17 May 2026, at 2 pm. Following the welcoming remarks, curator Horst Pajung will give an introductory talk on the special exhibition “NaturWandel in Karlsfeld”. Refreshments will be provided. Admission on this day is free; donations are welcome.
