Anna Klein: A rediscovery

Anna Klein (1883-1941) was one of the most talented artists of her generation. Yet the memory of her had almost disappeared. Bright colours and lively scenes characterise her paintings. Bavarian mountains and moors can be found here as well as cheerful nightlife and everyday rural life. As the daughter of a Jew who had converted to Christianity, she was systematically defamed by the National Socialists from 1933 onwards and eventually killed. As a result, her work was forgotten - but only almost.
Two of her works turned up in the collection of the Heimatmuseum Günzburg (Museum of local history Günzburg) during inventory work, which was taken as an opportunity to find out more about the artist. This resulted in this exhibition in collaboration with Heinz-Joachim Leisten and the gallery "Der Panther", Freising.
