For children. Art stories since 1968
18.07.2025 - 01.02.2026 ,
Haus der Kunst (House of art)
What happens when artists place children at the centre of their work? The exhibition "For Children" shows the work of artists who have turned their attention to young people and brings together works of art that have been created specifically for children and young people from 1968 to the present day. It deals with universal themes - such as humanity, society, politics, economy and ecology, technology and the future - which we first come into contact with as children and which accompany us into adulthood. While the artworks are primarily aimed at children, the underlying themes invite visitors of all ages to engage in an intergenerational dialogue.
"For Children" extends across various rooms in the building and is conceived as a three-part exhibition: Two expansive installations frame the group exhibition and open up the Haus der Kunst (House of art) to the urban space. Inspired by the legacy of the avant-garde group Gutai, artist Ei Arakawa-Nash invites visitors to draw on the museum floor in an interactive installation (pre-opening: 3.7.25). Koo Jeong A has designed a sculpture especially for the Haus der Kunst (House of art) that can be ridden on by skateboarders and opens up the building to the Eisbach and the English Garden. The exhibition continues Haus der Kunst's forward-looking approach by questioning traditional narratives and the canon while exploring new ways of making exhibitions, from presentation to interpretation.
