26.06.2025 - 21.09.2025 ,
Haus der Kunst (House of Art)
With the exhibition "ars viva 2025. Where will we land?", Haus der Kunst is continuing its commitment to a younger generation of artists and is showing this year's prizewinners Wisrah C. V. da R. Celestino (born 1989, Buritizeiro, Brazil), Vincent Scheers (born 1990, Duffel, Belgium) and Helena Uambembe (born 1994, Pomfret, South Africa).
In their new works produced for the exhibition, the three artists deepen central themes of their artistic practice while experimenting with new techniques. Wisrah C. V. da R. Celestino draws on biographical material and the cultural significance of plants to explore cultural value systems and political power relations. Celestino uses a research-based, conceptual aesthetic, criticises institutions and emphasises the agency of individuals. Vincent Scheers often uses found and industrially manufactured objects as well as organic material for his sculptures. His works create poetic images that playfully defy the laws of physics and thematise processes of transformation and transience. Helena Uambembe uses haunting installations to tell the story of her family, which is characterised by the conflicts in Angola and between Namibia and South Africa. By combining her personal memories with an exploration of collective memory in the form of stories, images and sounds, she creates space for empathy, healing and belonging.
This is the second time that the prestigious young talent prize, which is awarded annually by the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft, has been presented at the Haus der Kunst in Munich.
