Michael Jank ∙ WOLKEN wolken

Michael Jank has been circling the element of cloud for 25 years and now shows the relationship between his photography and its realisation in photogravure, lithography and screen printing.
He sifts through his collected material. He prints, subtracts, tests, searches and finds. In "vanishing ice", a collaboration with George Tuckel, he overprints images of the melting glaciers of Alaska. In the project "Fürimmerringe", a collaboration with Bettina Dittlmann, he creates macro images of forged metal surfaces. With "Waterways", river courses take on a life of their own as lines in lithography. Oregon, Alaska, Berlin, Korea, New York, Padua, Passau, Breitenbach and: "Nebelleben" in Ahrenshoop, the sky arches over everything and the clouds drift.
For Jank, the constantly changing clouds symbolise the permanent transformation in the world. What always exists is change itself. In his cloud paintings, he finds a way to capture certain moods in the sky. The screen-printed cloudscapes convey the feeling of being right in the middle of it. Using a dot grid, the cloud details are superimposed in colours ranging from blue-white to yellow-green, pink-red and violet, often in several layers.
Cloud photographs, but also landscape and travel images from Oregon - much of what Jank has done so far on the subject of clouds flows into the exhibition, and the Haus der Fotografie becomes Jank's cloud laboratory, to which everyone is cordially invited.
