10th Competition for Craft and Design at the Handwerksmuseum (Craft Museum) Deggendorf.

Every three years, the Handwerksmuseum (Craft Museum) of the city of Deggendorf organises a competition for crafts and design. In 2025, the theme of the tenth competition is "Well protected - rethinking headgear".

A total of 119 craftspeople and designers entered the competition with 187 headpieces.
70 headpieces by 43 craftspeople, designers and students were selected and can now be seen in the exhibition.

Hats are far more than functional items of clothing - they are cultural artefacts that tell stories of power, change and creativity. Their forms and meanings may have changed over the centuries, but their role as an expression of identity and style remains unbroken.

Large or small, classic, trendy or extravagant, the headgear on display features a wide variety of materials, colours and shapes and can be used in many different ways: hats as sun protection or for decoration, protective headgear, a mixture of head and face coverings, or even sophisticated wigs are presented in the Handwerksmuseum (Craft Museum).

A jury of experts selected three prize winners, who will be announced at the opening of the exhibition. The exhibition will be accompanied by a richly illustrated catalogue featuring the works of the winners and the competition participants, which can be obtained from the museum.
